Working With The Elements

Until recently, I haven't necessarily thought about my connection to the elements, individually or as a whole group. So I thought I'd try to do something about this within my Craft but also just generally in a creative way.

I could have chosen to use one of my favourite hobbies to do this (cross-stitching) but instead I felt like painting my own canvases with things that I associate with each individual element.

I like painting but I don't personally feel like I have any particular talent with it (although I have now promised to paint something for one of my closest friends) so this is a particular challenge for myself to follow my intuition and what to include on the canvas for each element.

I couldn't find any square canvases so I'm using rectangular ones instead which have changed the designs I had in my head originally.

I started with the element of Water for two reasons - first, that the July Witch Casket was based on the element of Water and contained a lot of interesting information and pretty (but also useful) things. It got me thinking about what represents this element for me personally. We all have similar things that can be associated with this element but we can also have different ones too.

The second reason I started with Water is that there has been rather wet weather where I am recently (in amongst some warm sunny weather) and I find this particular element so full of healing and cleansing energy.

What I've decided to do with these 5 elements is use the alchemical symbols for them with a background of a colour most closely associated with each element: blue for water, yellow for air, green/brown for earth, red/orange for fire, and purple for spirit. Within each alchemical symbol, I'll have the three zodiac signs that are most associated with that element. Above each symbol, I'll be painting the name of each element, while underneath the element I am hoping to paint some items that I associate with that element.

I'm concentrating on one element and its canvas at a time so that I don't lose any of my creative ideas but also so that I can comfortably focus on that element and what it means to me. This is also helping me to think about how I already work with each element.

I know this is a short musing today but I am excited to share some other revelations I have had in the next post.

However, here is what I've done so far with the canvas for Water!

Love and peace to you all!!
