The Awen That Connects Us All

So recently I've been reading a book about how to incorporate Druidism into modern daily life and it was quite an interesting read.

The author kept repeating to take what resonated and leave what doesn't, which made a pleasant change to people telling me how I should be practising my Craft.

But it got me thinking that we're all connected - to each other, to the animals, birds, insects, plants, to everything. Even to the elements of land, sea and sky. This wasn't a new concept to me but something about how this particular author wrote got to me and affected me - in a good way though.

Without the land, the plants would have nowhere to grow to provide vegetables and grains for breads. Animals would have nowhere to live, just as we wouldn't. Without the sea (or water in general), the land would be too dry for anything to grow and there would be no water-creatures. Without the sky, there would be no light to see by or for the plants to grow.

Without this amazing ecosystem, none of us would be here on this planet today to live our lives.

But what does this have to do with anything?

We are the entrusted keepers of this planet - entrusted to look after all living things, human, bird and animal. But we haven't been looking after this world. We've done as we wanted to without caring. We've hurt this planet with our pollution (noise, light and rubbish).

We need to take better care of this world before it's too late. Yes, this sounds like quite a "sermon" but I've done those things above - I've not taken the time to properly recycle things and just lumped them all into my normal rubbish bin.

But from now on, I will take better care of my little corner of the world. Not because I was told to but because I came to the realisation that if I don't care, why should anyone else? Why should I "preach" to others and not take my own advice? Nothing gives me the right to do that.

I have to practice my own advice for others to see the sense that I have given them. I can't just do nothing anymore. I have to do something and that starts with recycling what I can, and donating old shoes and clothes (my wardrobe is due a spring-clean).

The symbol above with the three dots, three lines, and three circles speaks to me that we are all connected, needing land, sea and sky to live - and so does every other living being on this planet. We need to find that reconnection with the world around us.

We don't have to make big statements and go all out on this. Even by looking after the garden and the birds with feeders etc, that's something more than before. Just small actions will do. They don't have to be grand statements forcing people to "look at us and what we've done" by shaming them - small things that no one else might notice at first will do.

So as I said before, I'm going to make my own start by doing my recycling properly. I'm not saying this to make you pay attention to your immediate world - this is my way of keeping myself accountable for keeping my promises.

I hope this gets you thinking but it's ok if it doesn't.

Stay safe and blessed be!!!!
