Sacred Ritual

So last weekend was the Sacred Group Ritual I've mentioned in a previous post. It was a really lovely ritual that was filled with lots of beautiful moments and an absolute ton of emotional and magickal support.

Each of us within the group did something within the ritual and I challenged myself to write a meditation for everyone to discover within themselves as a gift that they have and can offer to the world.

After the meeting where we planned who was going to do what, I asked a friend of mine to do a general mini reading for me. There was no focus and I hadn't mentioned anything about the meeting to her but the cards she pulled were both about the small plan I had for the meditation. It was amazing because it gave me the confidence to actually write out a draft.

She initially pulled Sensitivity, which is all about being an Empath and sensitive to the emotions and energies around me but also about being highly intuitive and having a heightened intuition. The message of this card was to sense beyond what I can see and to listen to my inner voice; trust that my heart will guide me to the right information; to be open to love and sense or feel fear wile choosing what to focus my energy on, withouth letting old stories dictate my thoughts or feelings. I thought this was interesting because of the purpose of the meditation.

The second card pulled was Traveller. The message from this card was to move in a new direction, either physically or to the realms held within; to welcome all opportunities to travel. This card was saying that the journey will be beneficial for emotional and spiritual growth, despite the fact that covering distance within is a road less travelled. I was also told to lighten the load and to keep things simple so that the journey could be enjoyed, and to see exactly how far I've come already. I was also advised that along this journey, I will be meeting friends for life along the way.

I knew that these cards were about the meditation and the group ritual but there was no way that my friend could have known about the planned group ritual (she's not in the group and I rarely mention it, except to my closest friends).

When I first sat down and wrote out my initial ideas for the meditation, I focused on the main body of it. I wasn't sure how I would start or end it so I started with the story of the meditation. Of course, it did evolve and I did end up editing bits of it so that it fitted with what I was wanting it to do.

At the start of the meditation, I wanted it to be a small journey to find the heartspace of a forest where a natural spring fed into a small pool. I didn't know why at the time but I felt like the space should be lit by the light of stars and a waxing moon - the actual moon phase when we did this ritual was the waxing moon!!

I was partly inspired by Nimue, the Lady of the Lake of Arthurian legends, who I researched the week following the planning meeting. According to the tales, she rose from the waters, carrying the Sword of Truth which was then given to King Arthur. Because this meditation was about discovering what gifts we may have, instead of a lady in the waters and the sword, I felt like it would be more appropriate to have a white water lily (a symbol of rebirth, celebration, and the promise of the future) rise from the depths of the pool before blooming to reveal that it contained a wooden chest.

To show that we hold the key to unlocking these gifts, I envisioned that the chest was locked but that the key was carried by us on a silver chain around our necks so that it could be easily opened.

Once the chest was opened, we could then bring out symbols of what our gifts might be - they could be of any number, large or small, because what really mattered was the gifts themselves. We spent a minute or two here before returning everything to the chest so that it could be placed back within the petals of the white water lily and return to the depths of the pool.

Although I wrote and recorded this meditation ahead of the ritual, I didn't follow along the journey until the ritual itself so that I could participate in it at the same time as everyone else in the group. This was interesting because the items I discovered were varied and each spoke about a different side of my Self as well as the gifts I have.

After the meditation, we spent a few minutes writing down what we each discovered in our chests and what they could symbolise. Here is what I found:

Books - I love to read and learn best from books or the written word, but books can also symbolise teaching too

Lavender - I love the smell of Lavender because it is calming and relaxing (I am hoping to grow my own Lavender next year so that I have my own supply of the buds)

Cats - I do have two cats who are a part of my Craft but they are also very independent animals, which is exactly how I am living; they are also connected to intuition and I am trying to listen to my intuition more than my rational/logical mind so that I can continue to follow my own path

Red Kites - I live in an area where these majestic birds can be heard and/or seen on an almost daily basis, but I also loved this bird as a child; they are connected to the Otherworld, reminding me to be open to psychic awareness and new thoughts and messages from Spirit

Feathers - I'm still not entirely sure what this could mean for me but I'm sure I will be shown its message in the future

Feather quill pen and ink - I own a feather quill pen and have a few bottles of ink sitting in my desk, but this highlighted for me how much I love to write, inspiring me to carry on writing this blog and sharing my experiences with you all

Earth and seeds/seedlings - I felt like the earth was showing the many possibilities that I hold for myself, but also how fertile those possibilities could be; the seeds/seedlings, I believe, were showing me the potential for new growth and that I need to nurture it to ensure it reaches maturity

Runes - I first started down my path because of a set of rose quartz runes that I was gifted about 11 years ago; it was my first method of divination and even though I don't use them as frequently, I still feel peaceful using them; they could show that I am but a messenger of Spirit

I will redo this meditation when I feel a little unsure of what I can offer to others and I wonder what else I might discover in the future.

I hope this inspires you to make your own journey to discover what gifts you may have.

Peace and love to all!
