New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries 2024

Happy Astrological Lunar New Year!!!! It's the first New Moon since the Sun entered the sign of Aries, which signaled the start of the astrological year, so this is another new start that we can take advantage of.

But this New Moon is happening at the same time as a Solar Eclipse. A Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon blocks the light of the Sun from reaching planet Earth. This happens twice a year but the whole world doesn't get to witness it every time which is why most of us don't know when they happen. This one will be visible for North America, Mexico, Canada and 15 of the United States.

But just because you may not be able to view and witness it in your country of residence, it doesn't mean that you can't harness the energy the eclipse will offer. It's like the New and Full Moons: you don't have to see it to know it happened so you can do the same with Eclipse energy.

Just like with a Lunar Eclipse, a Solar Eclipse is all about transformation and change. However, there's an element of everything starting again because of the Sun "dying" and then being "reborn". I really have a Phoenix-energy kind of feeling because of this and I just think it's amazing how the Universe can do this with the very first New Moon since the start of the astrological new year!

As has become a habit now, I went ahead and did an oracle card reading based on this New Moon Solar Eclipse, using a spread by Emerald Lotus Divination. I chose not to involve the energy of Aries because I wanted to focus on the energy of the Solar Eclipse instead. Until I looked through my collection of decks, I wasn't sure which I would use but once I saw Botanical Inspirations by Lynn Arujo, I knew it needed to be used for this.

Energy that surrounds me at this time

Red Rose – Hidden Secrets

With this card, I was slightly amused because eclipses are times when hidden secrets are revealed to everyone. I'm unsure as to what I could have hidden but perhaps this will be a time when others entrust me with their secrets.

I also associated the different forms of love with Red Roses so perhaps the secret that will be made visible relates to some kind of love.

Or perhaps this is telling me to stop hiding how much I love the people who are in my life, and to show them what they mean to me.

Looking at this card again, and the quote seems to have great importance: the Sun and the Moon cannot be hidden for long, which is true because the total eclipse lasted 4 and a half minutes.

A shift in my life caused by this New Moon Solar Eclipse

Venice Mallow – Delicate, Fleeting Beauty

This is rather interesting because I have always had a recognition that outward beauty doesn't last. No flower lives for long and so it's important to take time to marvel and wonder at its life. As a result of this, I feel like there's an element of enjoying the little things in life because we don't know when they might happen again (if at all).

But looking at the quote, I feel like there's another message to Venice Mallow: that some kind of beauty can be found even when life isn't a bounteous garden. The weeds would represent negative experiences and thoughts, while the Venice Mallow would be those small moments of light and positivity. Love and beauty can be found in the bleakest of places.

Something in my life that is going dark (ending)

White Rose – New Start & Wisdom

This card is rather a doozy and stumped me a little while. I feel like I've been on a self-discovery journey, getting to know who I really am while understanding who I used to be. During this journey, there have been a lot of new starts and plenty of inner wisdom has been learned along the way.

This ties into the quote because, in my opinion, without knowing ourselves, we can't show true empathy to others.

But this is what is coming to an end and that is a little confusing to me. If this new start is ending, then something must be coming in its place as one ending should beget a beginning.

Perhaps this comes to soften the blow of this new start ending because it's no longer such a thing for me.

Something in my life that will be illuminated (beginning)

Sweet Pea – Blissful Pleasure

This is a plant that I am semi-familiar with. I attempted to grow this from seed to adorn my outside area and while it didn't result in hardy plants, I learned a lot from it. Even the attempt at growing Sweet Pea from seed filled me with joy and pleasure just from its growth as proof that I could grow a plant. I will admit that I am not naturally inclined to plant magick (unless it's dried) so perhaps this is a gentle nudge to work on my outer area and improve its look and energy.

In the past I have struggled with depression but I learned that truly embodying the bliss I can see with my own eyes is the best way that I can battle it, as well as doing what brings me bliss which has opened up a path I couldn't see before.

A change that lies ahead for me

Nasturtium – Victory & Conquest

Change is always present and I do try to welcome change as much as I possible can. I'm wondering what it is that I could be victorious against but perhaps it's related to my inner and mental battles.

I struggle to show myself love as well as those I truly care about so this could be something that I work on and build into a true habit in the future.

Looking at the quote, I definitely think this card is talking about an inner issue. It's all about self-mastery and I know that there are aspects of myself that could do with focusing on and improving them. I can have a short temper that burns fiercely and then goes out just as quickly. Something else I could work on is how much I'm affected by the comments of others as I tend to take things personally.

Something I can manifest during this time

Anemone - Anticipation

Anticipation is a big emotion to have as it's getting excited about some mysterious magickal thing that I haven't a clue about. But my brain couldn't get past the "Windflower" name which relates to how this flower is blown open by the wind and dead petals can also be blown away by the same wind. Because Anemone can be translated to "daughter of the wind", this is a roughly-translated Greek name, derived from "anemos" (wind) and "one" which is a feminine suffix.

However, I'm usually the kind of person to get excited about some unknown mystifying future event so perhaps anticipation is something I need to work on embodying and showing in my life. As a result, I tend to feel like the quote due to being surrounded by magick and wonder.

With all of these cards, the two coloured roses are from the same family but I discovered, thanks to my innate curiosity, that the other four are good companion flowers to grow alongside roses! So all of these cards are supposed to work together to keep this work in focus and moving in a positive direction.

This was a really intriguing reading and I'm a little gutted that I wasn't lucky enough to witness the total solar eclipse myself. Regardless, it was definitely a hugely magickal time and experience for me while also taking into account the energies that were present at this time.

I hope this inspires you to consider how you can work with a solar eclipse in the future.

Peace and love to all!!!!
