Merry Meet, you magickal souls!!!!
We're almost at the end of 2024 and it seems as if the Moon wants us to be prepared for 2025 and the age-old new start we get as one calendar year ends and another begins. I say this because just a couple of days before 2025 starts, the Moon will begin a new cycle on 30th December 2024.
The New Moon is always about a new start. It's typically when we set intentions too, when we consider what we want our lives to look like and think about how to get there. These intentions can be set in a variety of ways, from simply writing them down as if you've already achieved them to making a vision board each month. (You could also make a circular board that is divided up into 12 parts, one for each New Moon/month.)
This particular New Moon occurs in the sign of Capricorn during the same zodiac season which always happens between 22nd December and 19th January. It's interesting that such an earthy sign straddles the old and the new years, almost like the stars want us also to be grounded and plant seeds and ideas for the whole year.
Capricorn is an ambitious and determined sign, and this are exactly the energies that this New Moon is highlighting to us. But what are our ambitions? Well, they are what we feel called to, our heart's desires, usually tied into our life purpose. And if we feel that we don't know what we desire or what our purpose is, then we can use this New Moon to discover what that is.
This sign is represented by the mountain goat, which symbolises that even when we are facing a mountain, we can still overcome it. Mountain goats will always find a way to scale it but they don't just plan their immediate next move because they are always looking ahead, ensuring that they can always reach their goal. This is the energy that Capricorn wants us to harness, especially at this New Moon.
But when we set our intentions, whether they are for the next calendar year, or the next lunar cycle, or the next month, it's important that we are very clear on what they are. Without clarity, the path ahead will not be visible. When we are clear, then the Universe (or whatever higher power we believe in) will know what to send our way to help us to achieve our intentions and goals.
So what can we do for this New Moon in Capricorn? Well, we can look ahead at the next 12 months to set intentions around what we want to achieve for the whole year. We can keep checking our progress by looking back and reviewing what we've achieved already. Progress isn't immediate so knowing that we need to take slow and steady actionable steps to make it to the top of this mountain that we face. Some of us may even need to walk a path that others haven't, taking risks along the way. If we do face an obstacle that we can't overcome, perhaps the message is that we need to find a different way up.
Based on all of this, let's try to narrow things down a bit as that is a lot to think about. I crafted this spread for this New Moon in Capricorn, and I used The Wild Unknown Pocket Tarot deck to discover the wisdom we need at this time.
How can we discover our heart's desires or our life purpose?
Four of Cups
This card is saying that we are being too critical of what is actually going on in our lives that we have developed a very strong lens of lack that we always seem to look through.
Because of this, we are unable to see the positives that are present in our lives, the good that we have done, the things that we have already achieved, and the things that light us up from within.
There's also a message that we need to start believing in ourselves if we really want to achieve anything. The Capricorn Mountain Goat believes in its choices and where it places its hooves, and this is something we need to do.
The lives we live can look different when we decide to look from a slightly more detached place, as opposed to looking out from within. Our perspective matters.
How can we be clear on what we want to achieve?
The Chariot
This card usually indicates that progress is coming and it's coming quickly!
But as an answer to this question, The Chariot is saying that we need to know the destination and where we are starting from.
We can also be clear on what we want to achieve by setting out smaller goals that lead us to our bigger desire, almost like when we might have to stop and refuel on a long journey.
But if we don't have any idea of where we want to go, we can't really set out on a journey. Even a generalised idea, like travelling a specific country, is better than just the idea of travelling.
Sometimes all we can do is know the starting point, the first stop along the way and the destination, but if we can be more specific, that would be better.
What will be the biggest "mountain" we need to climb or overcome?
Mother of Pentacles
With this card, the message is that our biggest mountain will be nurturing and caring for ourselves, with the mother doe keeping watch over her sleeping fawn.
We always want to see others live their best lives but do we want that for ourselves? Do we care about our own desires and dreams enough to stop putting energy towards others achieving theirs?
If we want to be successful there are times where we have to be "selfish" and focus on just ourselves.
We are our own parental archetype, the maternal (and/or paternal) example that we can utilise to ensure that we are looking after ourselves. We have to be willing to be our mother doe to our own fawn, with both being different aspects of our Selves.
If we don't look after ourselves, we can't find the success that we desire.
Which area of our lives most needs Capricorn energy?
Strength & Ten of Pentacles
With Strength, the message is that the area of our lives that needs Capricorn energy is our ability to take up space. We have to be strong to get out on stage as the main character and even stronger to finish our performance and receive accolades (or flowers). We also have to show our Strength if we want to be able to achieve our own dreams and desires because we have to defend our choices from others, and to just voice what we want out into the world in general. The kind of Strength we need is as infinite as the situations where Strength is necessary, so it doesn't matter about our individual lives quite so much because we should be able to find/discover the Strength anyway.
With the Ten of Pentacles, the message is that the area of our lives most in need of Capricorn energy is our relationship to success and finances. Capricorn is an earth sign, so it is very grounded, especially when (in the Northern Hemisphere) the earth has died off and there's barely any growth at all. In actuality, this is the time for putting down roots and building on stability. This means that we can use this time to plan and root our successes as much as possible on so that we can grow and harvest those successes in the future. Something else to note about the Ten of Pentacles is that the Ten usually denotes the end of a cycle but Capricorn occurs at the end of the calendar year and Winter is the "end" of the seasons, so maybe the end result needs focus.
Well, it seems as if this New Moon in Capricorn holds a lot of new wisdom for us as we move into the next calendar year. We need to look at our perspective, the viewpoint from which we view our individual lives, to ensure that we are as positive as possible to achieve our dreams. We need to know where we want to end up and at least the first step or two that we can take towards that destination. But at the same time, we need to ensure that we are taking care of ourselves by nurturing our goals and ourselves. The grounding energy of Capricorn can be used to ensure that we have the strength to stand up for ourselves and our dreams, and so that we can actually be successful with those dreams from the roots/foundation up.
