Happy Solar Return, you blessed souls!!!! It's an entire new calendar year and with it comes a whole new start, so much potential and possibility!! It hardly seems real that 2024 has actually arrived but indeed it really has.
So with the start of this New Year, it brought the first New Moon of 2024 and I wanted to do something so that I could work more closely with the Moon, following on from something I started in 2023. This was a project I started in 2023 but I also feel like I neglected it at times as well so this is my way of getting back to the Moon and all Her wisdom.
I decided to do a tarot reading using a deck that was gifted to me by one of my amazing magickal friends. It's the Movie Tarot deck so there are plenty of film references and I love it (it helps that I love films and have a fair amount of trivia stored in my weird and wonderful brain). Anyway, this was the first time I wanted to use it as it felt like the right time to do so.
What is this new moon bringing me?
Six of Coins
With this card, I felt like the message was that while I may be in the middle of a financial cycle, I'm also experiencing something new with it. By this, I mean that I actually feel like I can be an adult and do adult things, like keep track of my finances, budget to be able to do or have things.
While this is something we expect all adults to be able to do, this is something that I've had to learn how to do on my own. I will admit that I've made mistakes and I am paying for them. But looking back on where I was financially just a few short years ago, it's like night and day compared to where I am now.
I'm on the way to completing this financial cycle and that's rather encouraging.
What is my energy during the new moon?
Nine of Wands
With this card, I feel like the message was that I was getting prepared for the cycle and year ahead.
While I didn't set specific resolutions as most people do at the start of the new calendar year, I do feel like this year has begun with a kind of quiet strength, the kind that comes after overcoming an obstacle or facing a setback. (This happened with a home project in December and I now feel like I can face anything.)
I'm definitely still facing challenges but strangely, they don't feel like anything I can't overcome even when they are unknown tests, results, talking to a professional, or even an appointment.
What do I need to open myself to?
Knight of Coins, Ace of Wands, Ace of Coins
With the Knight of Coins, I feel like the message is that I need to be more trustworthy, reliable and methodical. Perhaps not just with others but also with myself as I also deserve the same treatment. I need to open myself up to finishing tasks, and doing what is necessary instead of letting things fester and stagnate.
With the Ace of Wands, I feel like the message is that I need to open myself to new starts, creativity, impacts and maybe even the release of energy. This is all about the start of ideas, so no matter where creativity or inspiration comes from, I need to be open to it and ready to respond to where it is directing me to go.
The Ace of Coins is a card that is becoming a bit of a stalker card for me at the moment: it appeared in my Prophecy 2023 reading as my theme of the year card, then again in my Prophecy 2024 reading as my lessons for 2023, and a third time in a collective reading shared by MyTarotLady under the guise of the Ace of Pentacles. This card is all about the start of a cycle of prosperity, a fresh financial start. This is definitely the time when I started to realise the potential of certain projects for the future.
What wants to manifest for me?
Five of Wands
With this card, I feel like the message is that I am approaching a time of conflict, struggle and competition with what wants to manifest for me.
It's almost like I need to fight for what I want and desire if I want it to manifest in my life.
Perhaps rather than being all about strife and conflict as is usual, this card is about being open to a variety of methods to manifest my desires, or that I could learn a lot from this lunar cycle if I could only be open to it rather than closed off to the options that may be presented to me somehow.
Maybe this card comes to show that while I think manifesting my desires may be complicated, in reality that's not quite the truth.
How can I best focus my intentions?
Nine of Swords
With this card, I feel like the message is to trust in my intuition as shown by the symbol of the Third Eye in the background.
The Swords themselves seem to be defending the Eye so perhaps I need to keep up my Hermit-life, while also integrating meditation into it to defend against potential despair, shame, fear and/or suspicion.
Perhaps this card is indicating that I can focus my intentions through crafting a particular ceremony or ritual to aid with setting the intentions in the first place. This in itself is interesting because there is something I have been considering doing for my intentions at every New Moon: using a wooden manifestation hanging box.
This was rather intriguing as I hadn't expected these cards to be quite so relevant to what has happened since I pulled these cards at the New Moon. Pretty much every single card has given me a deeper insight and a new perspective on what I've done since the New Moon in Capricorn on 11th January 2024.
With the total number of seven cards, I feel like this New Moon also has some of the energy from 2023 (especially since Capricorn season started in 2023). In Numerology, 2023 was associated with the tarot card The Chariot which is the seventh numbered card of the Major Arcana. The Chariot is all about fast movement forwards, achieving success after overcoming obstacles. With this lingering energy around at this New Moon, a lot of events make sense because everything has happened rather quickly and most obstacles have been overcome as well - those that haven't been beaten are unbeaten still for a variety of reasons, plus I can't overcome everything.
I hope this inspires you to consider what you could do for the New Moon in Capricorn in the future. Remember that while I have used tarot, other divination tools like oracle cards, runes, or ogham could also be used in its place.
