New Moon in Cancer 2024

The Moon has made its way into the sign of Cancer now that the Sun has said it's time for Cancer season, which started on 21st June this year, and now the New Moon in Cancer is upon us (which sounds a lot more ominous than I meant it to).

The New Moon is all about setting intentions and looking toward a new beginning because it's the start of the next lunar cycle. The New Moon in Cancer will reach peak energy on Friday 5th July.

The sign of Cancer marks the start of Summer, beginning on the Summer Solstice but this time is also ruled by the Moon. Because of this, it's a great time to think about starting to connect with the Moon, Her phases and Her cycle. This time of the year is also connected to the Heart Chakra so if you've been feeling disconnected from your emotional needs, have built defenses around your heart, or developed unhealthy emotional attachments, this is the perfect time to look at how to fulfil them.

Cancer is also connected to intuition, self-care, feminine power, and deep nurturing. While the traditional symbol for this time is the Crab, it's good to remember that while the outside of this creature is all about defense, the inside is nourishing and soft. We can be too focused on defending our hearts and keeping them safe that we ignore the fact that to have an emotional connection with anyone, we have to let them in; we have to be vulnerable with them.

The New Moon in Cancer is a great time to embrace and accept our emotions, using them as signs, becoming emotionally available to others, and also being truly present during your interactions with others. If you struggle to let down your Crab-like shell, this is the New Moon when you can do rituals and spells (or ask a spellcaster) to help you see your vulnerability as a strength instead of a weakness.

Since Cancer is associated with self-care, this New Moon is a great time to put yourself first for a bit, most especially if you're the kind of person to put everyone else's needs ahead of your own. You could use this New Moon to set intentions around building a daily habit of taking some time to take care of yourself. It can be as much or as little time as you can, so if you have to, schedule it in your diary, block it out so that you can prioritise yourself for a bit.

The Cancer New Moon is the perfect time to review the intentions you set at the Spring Equinox or the ones you set at the Aries New Moon. When the New Moon in Cancer happens, it acts as the First Quarter Moon so you can take this time to recommit to your long-term visions and dreams, using them as a reference point and as fuel for moving towards your future.

So come back home to yourself by nourishing, nurturing and being very gentle with with yourself during this New Moon in Cancer. Uncover your emotions by getting inside your own shell, and looking through all the insecurities and doubts into the depths of your soul and heart.

To help with this, I've done a tarot reading using the Good Tarot deck by Colette Baron-Reid. I hope it helps you to navigate this season, the next couple of weeks, and even the next six-ish months.

How can we nurture ourselves through this New Moon?

3 of Earth

With this card, the message is that we can nurture ourselves by taking time away from others. Sometimes being on our own to do things doesn't mean that we are alone or missing the company of others. At times, taking some solitary time can be as refreshing as a rainshower after a day of heat and scorching sun.

I know there are some people who will disagree with this next message but sometimes we have to take time away, put ourselves first and remind ourselves that we are the main character in our own lives (even if we do have to take in supporting roles). If we don't look after ourselves, no one will do it for us.

Where (in our lives) are we needing to heal?

Tower, 5 and 6 of Fire

With the Tower, the message is less that we need to heal a particular area and more about healing from letting go of ideas and ways of living that are no longer serving our highest good. Sometimes the only way we can heal is to rebuild our lives how we would like them to be. New starts are a theme for the New Moon so perhaps this is the best time for us to make plans for rebuilding on more solid and reliable foundations so our lives don't end up imploding when we least need them to.

With the 5 of Fire, we can heal by reconnecting with our passions, the things that make us bloom and light up from the inside. These interests are where we can spend time doing self-care to follow the advice of the energy of this New Moon. We need to tend to ourselves and our growth if we want to heal; we are each the gardener of our lives and if we don't tend to our energy, no one else will with the same dedication that we can give. But we have to set aside time to dedicate to looking after our lives and selves.

With the 6 of Fire, we need to heal by following our passions. The things that we are passionate about help to lift us up, to fill us with love, help us to connect with and relate to others. Our passions can inform our dreams and visions of our lives, but if we do nothing with them, then our dreams, visions and lives go nowhere. If anything, our hearts will become more burdened and feel heavier if we ignore the things that call to our hearts. Also, if we want to inspire others to follow their hearts, we have to be willing to follow this too. Following the dreams, passions and visions of others will never allow us to feel light and full of hope for the future.

Where can we comfort our inner child more?

King of Earth

With this card, the message is that we can comfort our inner child by thinking about how you could connect with this child version of you if you were the parent. Listening, spending time with them.

Think about the Disney film Bambi, when the stag father looks after Bambi in the winter - he has to connect with Bambi in order for Bambi to be able to make it through that particular season and this is exactly what we need to do for ourselves.

If we don't act as the stag and teach our inner Bambi how to navigate through life, we won't be able to thrive, love or bloom as well or as much as we want to. So it's time for us to reconnect with our inner child.

What is a new seed for us to plant during this New Moon?

10 of Earth

With this card, the message is that the new seed is fulfillment, progress and achievement. But these things can only come from a place of confidence and self-belief; without any of these things, then we won't be able to experience true wealth and abundance in our lives.

But we need to be grounded and build up to this abundance from a place of deep, strong roots. If we don't tend to our own life-gardens, as I and other cards have said before, then no one else will and we won't be able to enjoy them later on.

Being grounded is important for us to be able to manage the abundance and wealth without squandering the experience.

So with a lot of Earth and Fire energies being mixed with the Water of Cancer (and the Moon), this should be a good time for grounding, so that the destruction of how things currently are isn't as disruptive as it could be, and we can then cleanse to rebuild on a more stable foundation. This mix of energies really feels like Tower energy so it's interesting and appropriate that this card is also present in this reading.

I hope this is helpful for how you can navigate the next 2 weeks to six months. If you feel you need a more personal look at this time, feel free to get in contact.

Peace and love to all!!!!
