Living by the Zodiac Seasons

Writer's picture: AmethystRunewitchAmethystRunewitch

So we all know that the dates of our birth give us our Sun signs, our "main" zodiac sign that we can use to look at horoscopes. But did you know that we can also use these times to live our lives, connecting with the energy of the given sign? So you can live your life based around the themes and energies of the zigns just as much as you can live according to the various phases of the moon. This isn't as well-known so I thought I'd give some ideas about living according to the zodiac as well as the dates of each zodiac season.

The zodiac seasons are the times when the Sun is in the different zodiac signs: Aries season runs from 20th March to 19th April, Taurus runs from 20th April to 20th May, Gemini runs from 21st May to 20th June, Cancer runs from 21st June to 22nd July, Leo runs from 23rd July to 22nd August, Virgo runs from 23rd August to 22nd September, Libra runs from 23rd September to 22nd October, Scorpio runs from 23rd October to 21st November, Sagittarius runs from 22nd November to 21st December, Capricorn runs from 22nd December to 19th January, Aquarius runs from 20th January to 18th February, and Pisces runs from 19th February to 19th March.

So now you know when the zodiac seasons are, but how can you live in greater connection with this particular calendar? Here are some ideas for you:

With Aries season, it's the beginning. The beginning of the season of Spring, the beginning of the zodiac wheel. This also has the theme of rebirth as the zodiac wheel spins again. It's usually a fiery time, with warmth returning to the northern hemisphere after the winter. This is a time of action, due to the cardinal qualities of this sign. So if you want to start something new, this could well be a good time to put it into action. This sign ties into the themes of the calendar New Year, because it's the start of a new zodiac year. The Aries New Moon always happens during Aries season and it's the perfect time to set intentions/resolutions around what you'd like to start taking action for during this time. Don't hold back during this time - be bold and full of self-confidence. Let this season fill you with determination and drive so that you can aim for the stars and achieve anything you set your heart on.

Taurus season is a bit more earthy due to Taurus being an earth sign. However, it is a fixed sign, so this time should herald safety and comfort - two things that are usually important to those born under this sign. This is a good season to open up your heart, not just to others but to yourself too. It's a great time to think about the home - again Spring is usually in the process of becoming during this time so spring-cleaning is a great action for this time. Even thinking about redecorating is a good activity for this time of year. The Taurus New Moon isn't about making quick decisions and doing things as fast as possible - it's about slowing down and returning to yourself. Just as the Earth houses all living things, so too does your body house your soul. So looking after your body is another theme of this time. Being grounded in the present is another theme but at the same time, it could be actioned all year round.

On to Gemini season, which is a very social time. This season occurs around the middle of Spring, when the birds are really active and vocal so why not emulate their attitides and be social ourselves? This is usually a good time for communication as well - Gemini is an air sign and air is the element of this particular activity, partly because it's part of being sociable. With Gemini energy, it could be a good time to get other people involved in your projects, or ask for guidance/advice. But at the same time, because of the airiness of this sign, there is an element of just going with the flow - just as leaves are blown where the wind takes them and cannot control where they fall during windy weather. The Gemini New Moon can be used to figure out what your personal message is to the world, following your intuition where it guides you, and to bring forth inspiration (another airy connection) and new ideas that you can flesh out and bring out into the world once you've gotten a plan set out.

Next is Cancer season which is usually indicating that you should get in touch with your roots. It's a very compassionate time, both towards the self and others. It's also about embracing your softer side because Cancer is typically a very emotional season due to Cancer being a water sign. This is the perfect season to spend time with family, reminiscing about the past, and just generally giving your heart some breathing space. The Cancer New Moon is all about reviewing your Spring Equinox intentions, uncovering your emotions, and nurturing, nourishing and being gentle with yourself. Taking care of your self can be just spending time in your home, and letting it take care of you. This is an excellent opportunity to tell your loved ones what they mean to you.

Leo season follows Cancer and this is full of big energy. Leo is a sign that doesn't usually shy away from attention so don't be afraid to take up more space during this time. Because this is a fire sign, similar to Aries, this is the perfect time to shine on the stage of your life, full of enthusiasm and excitement for your projects. Just remember to give others the space to follow their interests, especially if they aren't as interested in your projects. This is a great time to just spend doing things that you love to do. Leo season happens right at the start of summer, so it's really good for getting out into nature and marvelling at how Nature surrounds you. The Leo New Moon can be harnessed to listen to what your heart is telling you, finding your own self-expression (through writing, dancing, singing, painting, literally any creative way that you enjoy), and it's also about having as much fun as possible. This is an adventurous time that should bring more happiness, joy and a kind of childlike energy to your life.

Virgo season is next. Virgo is very much the organisational-focused time of year and it usually overlaps with the start of a new school year, so getting organised is a good theme whether you have children or not. While this is an earth sign and usually very grounded in this reality, it's a good time to show your loved ones what they mean to you by writing little notes, spending time with them if you aren't usually able to, and just doing little things that you know they will love. If you feel called to, spend some time at home doing mundane (non-magickal) tasks, and refreshing your space. Because Virgo is such a perfectionist energy, it could also be a good time to embrace your imperfections and flaws. Being human is not about being perfect, no matter what people might think. Find the inspiration to make your plans and ideas a reality in your life. The Virgo New Moon is great for making plans and being methodical about achieving them, being present in your life and slowing down to enjoy and savour the moment, and gaining knowledge and wisdom that will help you, especially with regard to the areas of your life where you have felt uncertain or some self-doubt.

Libra season follows on from Virgo. Libra is all about finding a balance for everything to work to the best of its ability. But this is all about balance with others, finding and creating balance that works for the highest good of everyone involved. This is the time of the Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere (Spring/Vernal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere) and this is a time of change, balancing what was with what is current and what is still to come. This may be a time to put the new beginnings you thought about in Virgo season into action, taking real steps towards manifesting your best life. Be obhjective about your plans, knowing that they will have an effect on everyone in your life but don't lose sight of your plans and goals by taking everyone else into account. Find that balance between pleasing others and following your own desires. The Libra New Moon is a great time to find clarity on your autumn intentions and what you want to achieve by the Winter Solstice. It's also a good time to think about your self-love and self-care practices, showing that you take time to look after your own self and body. Balance is all about having healthy boundaries and relationships, so this is a good time to look at this area of your life.

Scorpio season follows Libra. It's all about change and transformation but it's also about going deep within your emotions. This is likely to be a very emotional, watery time of year because Scorpio is a Water sign, however this can also be a time for introspection, looking within and just observing what is happening around you without getting involved unnecessarily. Scorpio season could also bring you closer to truths, without embellishments and superficialities getting in the way. This is a really good time to think about Shadow Work, looking at and getting to know the innermost parts of yourself through your past, memories and emotions. Shadow Work sounds really scary but it's really just getting to know your inner Self on a deeper level by finding these parts of your Self, discovering how to release them, and transforming yourself into a new and improved version of who you used to be. It's interesting that this is a theme of Scorpio season when Scorpio is ruled by Pluto which is the planet of transformation and illumination, but before Pluto was discovered, Scorpio was ruled by the planet of war, Mars, which can also fit in here if you're willing to fight for what you want and stepping into your power to face your transformation like a warrior. The Scorpio New Moon is a good time to ask yourself some deep soul questions while using your emotions as signposts. Another thing to do under the Scorpio New Moon is to be clear on your barriers, boundaries, avoidance tactics and protection systems, noticing what you do to avoid being vulnerable or feeling too much. Being vulnerable isn't a bad thing but moderation is advised.

Sagittarius season follows Scorpio. This is full of fun-loving and adventurous energy. Be open to new possibilities and experiences. This is the perfect time to think about the adventures, whether physical or intellectual, that you've wanted to take for a while. Let any and all activites that you do daily or weekly become an adventure in themselves. Stay busy but also connect with people who can inspire you (and others) to do better. This is the time to shift your thinking and embrace positive vibes, defending yourself from those who may be trying to bring your energy down through cynicism, controlling or manipulative tactics. Communicate but consider what you are saying and whether it may hurt those you may need as allies later. This season leads up to the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere (Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere), so use the Sagittarius New Moon to review the events of the last 12 months by making a list of what you've achieved, learned, and grown, as well as the things you didn't do for whatever reason. After reviewing the last 12 months, think about what your intentions are for the next calendar year and how you might be able to make your intentions manifest in your life. If you feel called to, use this time to be bold and brave, maybe doing something you've been afraid to do.

Capricorn season follows Sagittarius. This time follows after the Winter/Summer Solstice, full of hardworking and motivational energy. Capricorn is the hardest worker of the zodiac and this energy is present during this season, even if the weather may appear to be working against you. During this time, you may feel particularly motivated to get your tasks and work done, maybe so that you can enjoy your time off with a clear conscience. Move with intention, set your goals, and start to make major moves forward, but keep a level head so that it's easier for you to plan for success and achieve your goals. Just remember to let your emotions in, be more sensitive to others and consider working alongside them instead of trampling over everyone to get what you want. Capricorn season is in full swing by the time the calendar new year occurs so it's also the perfect time to reinvent yourself. You don't have to throw yourself head-first into making your New Year's resolutions a reality if it's easier to gently bring them into your life. Let optimism overflow within you and reach out to other areas of your life that needed some positivity. The Capricorn New Moon is a good time to consider whether you are living your purpose and passion by listing all the things that give your life meaning so that you can use this list as you move towards Aquarius season. Make a list of everything that you want to achieve over the next 12 months. Shift your mentality from questioning why things are happening to you into asking what lessons the experiences hold for you.

Aquarius season follows on from Capricorn. This time is full of curiosity and having faith in where your journey is leading you. This is when you may feel like you experience a "breath of fresh air", especially seeing that Aquarius is an air sign and not a water sign. Minimise the negativity and focus on the positives. Accept those around you for who they are, without judgements. Mellow out and make more space in your life for things that make you feel good. Let your confidence grow, and accept that you have the skills to get out there and find something amazing. This is not the time to worry about what comes next though. Adopt a more laid-back mindset so that your stress levels are lowered and have a positive impact on your own mental health. Keep communication open and honest within all of your relationships, not just romantic ones. This is the time to relax and just be, without needing to constantly be doing things. The Aquarius New Moon is good for taking some time alone just for you, ready for the emotional reset that comes next. Feel your way to connect with your inner power. Use this energy to tune into what is stirring within you, so listen to and feel your soul's calling. This will then feed into getting into alignment with your soul purpose and what you want to ofer to the world. Don't be afraid to make a list of your gifts talents, passions and desires, so you can figure out what really makes you come to life.

And finally, Pisces season follows Aquarius. This is all about getting swept up in your dreams, swimming through your emotions, looking at the world with love, channeling your feelings with creative outlets, and tapping into the power of the imagination and intuition. But this can also be a season of rest and rejuvenation - just in time for the arrival of another Aries season and Spring! So let your mind wander and imagine what your life could look like when the astrological new year arrives at the end of Pisces season. Just as this is the last sign of the zodiac, it's important to allow endings to create new beginnings. We can't control how life flows or where it takes us, but we can control how we react to them. This is very much a time to consider whether there are areas of your life that need a revamp, or even releasing. If you don't like something within your life, take heart from the knowledge that you can do something about it. You hold the power of change and transformation within you. The Pisces New Moon is a good time to reflect on the events within the last astrological year but also on whether you may have lost sight of your New Year's resolutions/intentions. If you have, then you could look at what you could do to get back on track and progressing within your life. It's also a good idea to look back on the challenges you may have faced, what lessons they held, and what blessings they brought to your attention. It's also good once you've set your intentions to watch for signs and then act on them. You're not alone during this time either, because the Moon and the Universe are both available to give you guidance when you need it.

So this turned out to be way longer than I thought it would be but I think it's worth being more aware of the energy that we can connect with and learn from as we move through the year.

I hope this is inspirational and helpful for you within your lives. But don't think that you can't do certain things because it's not that particular astrological season - remember that the Moon takes 2-2.5 days to move through each sign so there are other times when you can harness the astrological energy.

Peace and love to all!!
