Full Moon in Capricorn 2024

Writer's picture: AmethystRunewitchAmethystRunewitch

It's that time again where we approach the Full Moon in Capricorn because it always occurs during the season of Cancer. This is also rather a special Full Moon because it's the first one to happen after the Summer Solstice! Typically, the Summer Solstice occurs on 20th or 21st June and in 2024, it's the former.

This Full Moon is the perfect time to look at where you are within your life. It's giving us the opportunity to see what we need to wrap up before moving onto something new. But it's not just about the last two weeks since the New Moon in Gemini - it's more our long-term plans, the real and lasting ideas that are truly meant to be ours. Just remember that if it's not meant for you and/or doesn't serve your future, it will (and should) fall away.

Cancer is a Water sign and is connected to our emotions, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise if the next few weeks are particularly emotional. But in order to release what isn't meant for us or what doesn't serve our future, we have to be willing to face our struggles head-on so that we can learn from them and truly deal with them. By avoiding, hiding from or just ignoring these struggles, we're only delaying the progress (both internal and external) that we could be making.

Cancer is also a Cardinal sign, one of the four signs that starts a season. This is interesting because this sign is full of initiating or starting energy. It can also be dynamic, and action-oriented. Cardinal signs tend to tackle obstacles straight/head on, is very direct. If there's a crisis you've been dealing with recently, this is a good time for crisis management. Just take care that when you begin projects, you don't face too much difficulty with following through and seeing it to the very end.

So get clear on your emotions by journaling about what they are showing you as well as the practical steps you could take to have a clear plan and move forward. Get organised, and this can be as big or small a project as you feel it should be for you - if you've been thinking of sorting your wardrobe, this is a perfect time to get it done because it's the practical side of letting go of what you no longer need. Ask yourself what your biggest doubts are and take notice of them, especially the ones that relate to your ambitions and aspirations, so that before the New Moon in Cancer (but after the Moon reaches true full) you can release them from your mind and heart.

I found a spread by Tarot Wisdom that I thought was most appropriate for the Collective. While prosperity and wealth are typically material and physical things, we forget about the mental, emotional and spiritual sides to these things. Now, I'd normally use tarot or an oracle deck but for this Full Moon, I felt pulled towards using my Ogham staves, the ancient written alphabet of Early Medieval times for Irish and Pictish languages. (Staves is the name of the "letters" and they are all on the corresponding woods they represent.)

How can we improve our prosperity right now?

Beith - Birch

This is such an appropriate stave becuase it's the very first one in the Ogham alphabet! It's all about new beginnings, change, release and rebirth but so is the Birch tree!

The Birch tree is associated with the tarot card, The Star, so also brings hope that new beginnings are just around the corner if we could only be determined enough to explore them.

This stave also mirrors the energy of this Full Moon so we really do need to let go and get rid of all the negative influences that we've been carrying around. By getting rid of these negatives, we make room to actually see the positives that are waiting for use to notice them. But if we've been carrying these burdens for a while, it can be difficult to release them because change can sometimes be uncomfortable and challenging for us.

It's time for us to stop staying where we are with no changes and hoping things will improve anyway - because this behaviour isn't serving our highest good, let alone our future.

What is restricting our prosperity and wealth?

Tinne - Holly

With this stave, the message is that it's time to stop thinking that we are being secretly sabotaged or that there is an underhanded plot against us - in reality, the only person who is sabotaging our own plans is ourselves. We can sometimes stand in our own way of achieving our goals.

Have you ever thought about teaming up with like-minded people or those who have the same end-goal as you? Sometimes we have to team-up as Holly does, united by a single stem/trunk/idea that the rest of us are connected by.

Perhaps we haven't learned how to truly overcome and adapt to new situations. We may not feel able to trust our instincts (especially our intuition) but we have to push through this challenge, to adapt and adjust to new situations.

What will help us achieve our long-term goals?

Duir - Oak

It's interesting that Duir appears here because the Oak tree is related to the Birch tree - they are quite literally two branches of the family of Central European woodland trees.

Oak is associated with strength and resilience as they are slow to mature and live for so long. It can withstand any kind of weather and still be as it was before the storm - this would signify being strong and steady regardless of how unpredictable life is for you.

The Oak is also representative of the intense energy and power of storms (and wind), so it is symbolic of the endurance and stamina we each possess that can help us to flourish and thrive.

But we have to realise it and hold within us the self-confidence to embody these attributes. We also need to have patience because while the Oak is a truly majestic tree, it grows from an Acorn which is miniscule by comparison.

How can we empower ourselves?

Huath - Hawthorn

When it comes to empowerment, we have to remember that it is stifled by fears, anxieties and despair. When we focus on the negatives, the positives are unable to flourish and grow but at the same time, setbacks are a natural part of life - even trees and plants experience setbacks (namely humans). No matter how thorny a problem or situation may be, we can use our spiritual strength to protect ourselves and discover guidance.

Hawthorne is assciated with fertility and new life (perhaps even new beginnings?), but it's also connected to endings or death. Think about the Death card in tarot, which is also connected to both endings/death and how new life can follow after this.

Whether you are in a wider community or standing alone, your situation is as individual as you are.

Cleanse yourself of the negatives so you can focus on the positives you hold within.

What success do we need to acknowledge?

Fearn - Alder

With this stave, the success we need to acknowledge that we can be a safe placefor others when they are facing difficulties. We are filled with unlimited and unconditional love but as children, we are taught differently through words and actions.

We survived our childhoods and grew to where we are now. That is no small feat in itself. We are hardy and resilient, just like the Alder which grows in boggy and wet areas (usually near rivers/lakes). We couldn't have made it this far in life without being determined, having some sense of self-preservation, and/or had to be strong while feeling the opposite.

We have gathered knowledge and information that has been useful to us so far, but why not share that information and help others who may be faced with a challenging decision so that they can make the best decisions possible going forward?

We are survivors and can assist others with their own unique survivals.

So we all need to get out of our individual paths and, perhaps, think about collaborating with others and how that could improve community more than we thought. But what was really interesting to me was that all five of these woods/trees/bushes can all grow and live harmoniously together in the same forested area!

So not only did these Ogham staves all work together within this collective reading, but they can actually work together in the wild too!!!! How is that for a sign that we can empower each other, giving the support that we need in the hopes that we'll receive it from those we give to.

I hope this gives you some insight into how the next couple of weeks to six months could be for us all. If you need any extra guidance, you're welcome to send a message about a personal look at how this Full Moon in Capricorn will affect you.

Peace and love to all!!!!
