So Day Three was all about being connected to the cosmos, the sun. moon and stars. But it was also about connecting with cycles and the concept of time. I've virtually attended quite a few rituals where it's mentioned that we land within a space between the worlds affects all the worlds.
With the idea of time, we have a cultural learning that it happens in a straight line going from the beginning of everything to the end. But how do we know that this is actually the truth? The passing of time is marked by the various cycles of nature: the lunar cycle, and the seasons being the two main cycles that we have a tendency to follow most. But there's also the planetary cycles of retrograde, stationary and moving direct. While retrograde is an optical illusion, it's a great opportunity to look within an maybe do some shadow work.
I'm doing my best to follow the lunar cycle within my life, but I have noticed certain things have happened naturally within my life and it "happened" to coincide with certain phases and being in certain signs. We get a new beginning every year with the Gregorian calendar and then we get a new start every month, but we also get 13 other new beginnings: with every New Moon (and the occasional Black Moon which is an extra New Moon in the same calendar month).
I did purchase Yasmin Boland's Moonology diary for 2022 and later on in the year, I will be purchasing the one for 2023 (the end of August is when it is being released). The one for 2022 has sections for setting intentions for each of the New Moons, as well as reflections for the Full Moons, and I do find these useful provided I remember to actually use it.
I'm really not a morning person, to the point where I've described myself in the morning to people who don't know me that well and they've laughed at the "absurdity". I say that I'm like a mama bear who has been woken from hibernation way too early because all I do is sit in one spot while grunting and groaning until I feel awake enough to formulate words. I prefer the night to any other part of the day because I can get distracted far too easily but also, there's fewer people awake and it's just a really peaceful time to me.
When it comes to seasons, I don't mind summer as long as it's not tropical, humid heat. I like being able to sit and watch the birds in my area during the day. But I also like the winter because I like to stay at home and getting cosy on the sofa with my cats and a blanket. Spring and Autumn have too much change for my own liking, while Summer and Winter have their own elements of change that are slightly more palatable to me.
When it comes to my Shadow story about time, I'm not a fan of set schedules, needing to be awake at the same time every day, doing the exact same things, seeing the same people and just having the same events every day without any deviation. I had a very rigid schedule when I was a child and as much as it helped when it came to homework and revising for exams, I don't feel like it has much relevance to my life as an adult now. I do like some time-keeping, but I prefer to let events flow as naturally as possible.
I do follow retrogrades in my own magickal life but I do it to understand the times where I might want to consider certain aspects of Shadow Work, or I could be wanting to be prepared for delays or communication issues. I don't follow them as closely as I'd like to but perhaps this is an opportunity for me to set the intention to do so in the future.
This was a very intriguing reflection for me as I hadn't really considered any of the above until Karena brought it up, and I hope it inspires you to consider how you work with (or against) the cycles that are around you.
Peace and love to all!!!
