Last week I received a package in the post from the lovely Emily at Wise Woman Witchery, who runs the Priestess Path course.
I had no idea I was going to be sent anything in the post and what it contained has helped me learn even more about the various things I can use to cleanse my space and help me to ground my energy.
So, what did this package contain? A lovely note from Emily welcoming me to the Priestess Path course, a bundle of white Sage, a stick of Palo Santo, a piece of selenite, and a piece of black tourmaline.
I am very familiar with selenite which is a cleansing crystal that is associated with the moon and her energy ("Selene" is the name of the Greek goddess of the moon). I actually keep 2 pieces with my Lord of the Rings oracle deck and Forest of Enchantment tarot deck, as well as a piece with my black agate runes. I do this so that these two decks (two of my favourites) and the runes are always cleansed and ready to be used in divinations.
I did already have a piece of black tourmaline which came in a cute little box of "Cleansing Essentials" I received in September 2020's Witch Casket. Black tourmaline is a powerful, protective stone that dispels any negative energy from the chosen space, as well as helping with electromagnetic radiation so it can be kept near technology (although my laptop starting playing up when I kept the tourmaline nearby so maybe not so good for technology).
I am also familiar with sage (I've got some in my Kitchen Witchery supplies) but I've never really had a bundle of it before. I know that White Sage is protected because it has been harvested rather a lot and I would never go out of my way to get some - I'm actually hoping to grow my own Sage in the future so that I can harvest from myself. I do have sage incense cones but I prefer to use Dragon's Blood incense to cleanse and protect my space. However, I am always willing to try something new, and although I don't have anything I could use to aid with snuffing it out, I will definitely try using the sage bundle in the future. The White Sage bundle I received is bound up with blue string, which I feel is important because it is associated with healing (ever wondered why doctors and nurses wear a lot of blue?), harmony, peace and protection - all ideas/feelings that can be promoted by using the sage tied with blue string.
I've heard of Palo Santo but never used it so I had to look up how I could use it. It is definitely something that I would like to use, even if I decide that it's not something for me. Unless I try it, I won't know.
The package has certainly expanded my supply of cleansing items. As I've said, I had black tourmaline, selenite and dried sage, but I also have a small amount of black salt, quite a collection of white candles (they can be substituted for any colour, by the way) and a piece of frankincense rope incense. I've never used rope incense and don't really know how I might light it but I will definitely be looking into this which means more learning and makes me a happy witch.
I also have a silver bell that has a pentacle engraved in it. It has a very clear ring to it and I know that I don't use it to clear my space as much as I want to, which is something that I do want to change and have been working towards.
I have plenty of incense (again, another collection) and not all of the different scents can be used for cleansing but the ones that can will be used more often now to help keep my space cleansed and clear.
Receiving the cleansing package has helped to further my education of how to use those items (and the ones I already have) to keep my sacred space cleansed.
I feel as if I am only just starting to fully learn what items and energies are really at my disposal when it comes to my Craft and I'm eager to learn more.
